Celebrity Cruise Line was formed in 1988 by a Greek company called the Chandris Line. In 1997 they merged with Royal Caribbean International and they have gone from strength to strength from there with the financial backing of RCI. All Celebrity ships have a distinctive ‘X’ on their funnels. This represents the Greek letter Chi, which was used to represent the Chandris group.
Celebrity Cruise Line now has a fleet of tens ships, and itineraries that cover many destinations around the world. Their ships have become increasingly more glamorous and spectacular over the years, and they have also increased in size along with the current trend of building bigger ships. Their largest class of vessel is the Solstice class which consists of four ships, the Celebrity Solstice, Celebrity Eclipse, Celebrity Silhouette and Celebrity Equinox. These ships weigh in at a gross tonnage of 122,000, carry 2850 passengers and are 1041 feet in length.
